On Thursday 18 July 2019 at a ceremony in Dublin, Josepha Madigan TD, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, formally launched Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage which includes “Cobh Carillon Playing”.   This Inventory, drawn up by an Expert Advisory Committee, was selected from a large number of applications ranging through cultural, craft and heritage activities

AS 2007 marked the 80th Anniversary of summer carillon recitals at St Colman’s, the Cobh Carillon Committee marked the occasion with an enhanced programme of events. This included guest recitals by leading carillonneurs from countries especially associated with the Cobh Carillon over the years. Dutch carillonneur Boudewijn Zwart also presented a series of recitals and lectures in Cobh and Cork featuring his unique “Bell Moods” traveling carillon. The celebrated American carillon composer, John Courter, was engaged to write a commemorative Cobh Carillon 80th Anniversary Suite under the Commissions Awards Scheme of the Arts Council. An annual Staf Gebruers Memorial Lecture and Student Award, generously sponsored by Tom and Ann Jago, was inaugurated at University College Cork. A new compact disc of the Carillon of St Colman’s Cathedral was launched, produced in collaboration with University College Cork.

The XIII World Carillon Federation Congress took place in Cobh and University College Cork from Sunday July 28 to Thursday August 1 2002, the first occasion this event was held in these islands. The Congress, which had as its theme “The Carillon and the Music of the People”, was one of the largest ever, attracting over 200 delegates from throughout Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. A particular attraction was a 48-bell Eijsbouts travelling carillon, specially brought to this country for the first time. As well as Cobh, during the period of the Congress this travelling carillon also visited other locations throughout Counties Cork, Wexford and Waterford. The Congress began with a special Mass in St Colman’s Cathedral concelebrated by Most Rev. Dr. John Magee, Bishop of Cloyne, and members of the Cathedral Chapter. The packed programme included carillon recitals, lectures and social events. The Congress was grant aided by The Arts Council and Cork County Council
